Winter Springs, FL:  EDUCATION

If educational opportunities are a personal priority, Winter Springs has choices for students at all stages of their education.  For students in kindergarten through 12th grade, the Seminole County School District has consistently achieved top grades on the annual School Accountability Report from the Florida Department of Education.  Consequently, the school district was named an “Academically High-Performing School District”.

Winter Springs is home to a number of high achieving public schools.  Several area schools have received Five Star awards for community involvement including Highlands ElementaryLayer Elementary and Indian Trails Middle which also received Gold and Silver Awards for its volunteer programs.  In addition to the Five Star award, Winter Springs High is nationally ranked within the top 1% of high schools according to Newsweek and the baseball and water polo teams both received 1st place as Academic Team Champions for the highest team GPA in the state.  Other area public schools include Keeth ElementaryRainbow Elementary and Winter Springs Elementary.  Also, Winter Springs has a number of private schools ranging from secular schools to those with diverse religious affiliations. 

With Orlando right around the corner, Winter Springs offers many secondary education opportunities for students seeking non-degree courses to those pursuing professional level degrees and everything in between.  The University of Central Florida is one of the largest universities in the nation providing undergraduate, graduate and medical degree programs to over 50,000 students.  The school offers over 200 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs while the new medical school and research facilities are preparing UCF for continued growth. 

Central Florida is also home to many private universities including Barry University Law School.  Additionally, the historic Stetson University main campus is located 40 minutes north of Winter Springs in DeLand. This private university offers 60 undergraduate majors and minors as well as a college of law located in the Tampa area.  The local two-year college, Seminole Community College, offers more than 130 certificate and associate degree programs.
